Human footprints can be found at every step of this route, on every stone that was placed by the Romans to build their road to the Plateau; we also find it in the previous traces, those of the tumultuous necropolises, whose vestiges are still seen on the route. But, without a doubt, the main element of nature in this route is the landscape.
Walking along the crest of the sierra, you can see on the right and left the nearest valleys and the most distant mountains, the rivers, forests and pastures of Somiedo, Teverga, Grado, Belmonte de Miranda, Yernes and Tameza.
The Camín Real de la Mesa is a mountainous hiking route, more than 56 km long, of medium-high difficulty, which can take about 17 hours if done on foot. It is also suitable for mountain biking and horse riding. This is a well-marked Grand Tour route (G.R.-101), except for a few points where the vegetation can camouflage the path.
This route requires caution, because of its almost constant altitude, and we must take into account the exposure of the Cordal to all kinds of winds, as well as fog. It is recommended to avoid the route in winter, except for professional mountain hikers.
